Meet Dr. Ira Rothstein
Dr. Rothstein Has a Passion for Orthodontics
Dr. Ira Rothstein was born and raised in Hollywood, FL along with his brother, Adam. He loves South Florida, and he always knew he wanted to live and work in the community where he grew up. He calls meeting Dr. Wohlgemuth and becoming a partner in the practice a dream come true.
After graduating from Pine Crest School, he studied at Emory University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in biology. Pursuing his dream to practice dentistry in South Florida, he came home to attend dental school at Nova Southeastern University, where he received his certificate in orthodontics and a Master of Science degree for his research on temporary anchorage device.
He also earned multiple academic honors:
- graduated in the top 5 percent of his class
- scored in the top 1 percent on the national dental boards
- admitted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society based on academic excellence and moral character
Honestly, it just fits with my personality. It's kind of the perfect, I think, niche job for me. I like interacting with people and I like to put things together and figure things out. Orthodontics is the type of job where you're constantly interacting—I mean all day long.
Sometimes I get home at the end of the day and I can't believe how much I've been talking all day because you're talking with the patients and the parents and you're goofing around, trying to give them a good experience but you're also thinking from a physics perspective and a biology perspective, which are the types of sciences that interest me.
And then there's also something very tangible at the end of the treatment, so you actually get to see and experience what you've been working towards. So it's not like you're just constantly going towards something. You actually have an end goal that you get to see. It's a perfect job for, I think, my personality.
Despite his rigorous study in dental school, Dr. Rothstein says he’s never studied more in his life than he does now. His career is a true passion for him, not just a job. With that comes the constant desire to learn more, try new things, and be able to perform at the highest levels. He strives to stay up to date on the most recent literature, attend seminars and meetings, and, most important, collaborate with peers through various study clubs. Dr. Rothstein has even led high-level continuing education training for other doctors!
He maintains memberships in these professional organizations:
- American Association of Orthodontists
- Florida Association of Orthodontists
- American Dental Association
- DEAL component of the Seattle Study Club
- Spear Study Club
- ITI Study Club
- Pinnacle Study Club
- Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce
He met his wife, Lindy, after a mutual friend convinced her to come watch his team play basketball. After sharing a victory water-ice and some good conversation, the rest was history! The couple have a toddler son, Oliver, and are expecting a new baby. When not in the office, Dr. Rothstein enjoys playing guitar, running, and relaxing at the beach. Although he’s a Floridian, his biggest passion is snow skiing!
He looks forward to giving you the best orthodontic experience possible at either location of Smiles by Dr. W and Dr. R: Boca Raton, FL or Coral Springs, FL.
