Loose Bands or Brackets: Keep them in place if possible and call us during office hours to schedule a reattachment.
Loose Appliance: Use dental wax to hold it in place or store it in a Ziploc bag if it comes off completely.
Irritating Tie Wires: Cover with dental wax or tuck them under the archwire with a blunt object like a pencil eraser or Q-tip.
Broken or Poking Archwires: Bend them in with a pencil eraser or trim with nail clippers. Contact us if the issue persists.
Soreness: Eat soft foods, rinse with saltwater, and take over-the-counter pain relievers if necessary.- Irritating Appliances: Apply dental wax to any spots causing discomfort until your mouth adjusts.
Headgear Issues: Double-check your instructions, as discomfort often means it’s not being worn as directed.
If you suffer a direct injury to your mouth or teeth, follow these steps:
Apply ice right away to minimize swelling, reduce pain, and prevent further irritation to the affected area.
They will likely need to take an x-ray to assess the damage and have the necessary materials and anesthesia to treat any severe injuries.
If your orthodontic appliances are displaced, we’ll need to adjust or replace them after your dentist addresses the initial injury.
